A follow-up to our Feb. 11 item from the SF Daily about how photos from the historic Hearst Examiner archives, which were supposed to have been donated to UC Berkeley, are actually being sold on eBay.

Now it appears they were also sold at an antiques show by Lelands.com, the same company that’s selling them on eBay. The publication Antiques And The Arts carries a report about the show in Hartford, Conn.:

“The ‘mosh pit’ crowd at Lelands.com was intent on finding priceless images among the piles culled from the huge archive of the San Francisco Examiner that the Seaford, N.Y., firm acquired last year for a ‘seven-figure sum,’ according to principal Josh Evans. ‘We bring about 25,000 images to each show we do,’ said Evans, ‘Everything is priced at $3, and people have found photos valued at up to $800’ among this collection of news photos, local San Francisco subjects, sports, entertainment and military.”

The article gives no indication as to who sold the items to Lelands.com. The Examiner’s owner, billlionaire oilman Phil Anschutz, got a $18.4 million tax write-off for the donation — more than the $10.7 million he paid the Fang family to buy the newspaper in 2004.
