Press Club presents awards

Eighty-seven awards of excellence were presented to San Francisco area media at the Peninsula Press Club’s 22nd annual awards dinner, held Friday at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Burlingame.

Master of ceremonies Rebecca Corral, news anchor and reporter at KCBS radio, announced the winners, who were selected from 499 entries by print and television media and public relations professionals in the 11 Greater Bay Area counties. Competition was for work done in 1998.

Three students were honored as recipients of Herb Caen scholarships presented each year by the Peninsula Press Club. Nesssa Hessami of San Mateo High School received a $1,500 scholarship. Roberto Reyes Ang of Chabot College in Hayward and Peter Orne of the Graduate School of Journalism at UC Berkeley shared top collegiate honors and each received $1,000 in scholarship money.

The San Mateo County Historical Association received the Peninsula Press Club’s annual Bonnie Chastain Award for its outstanding work with Bay Area Media in promoting the society’s activities.
