September 2003 Press Club board minutes

Minutes of the Peninsula Press Club Board of Directors meeting of Sept. 10, 2003, at the offices of the San Mateo Daily News.

In attendance were Jack Russell, John Kane, Ed Remitz, Michelle Carter, Jon Mays, Darryl Compton, Bill Workman and Dave Price. President John Kane called the meeting to order at 6:25 p.m.

Michelle Carter delivered the treasurer’s report. She said the club has paid one of the two $1,500 scholarships and that she is awaiting information on the second one. In addition, both Mary Jane Zirkel scholarships were handed out. She said the club has $23,537 in its checking account and the scholarship account stands at $6,893.22. Bill Workman moved to accept treasurers report, seconded by Dave Price, carried by unanimous vote.

Darryl Compton said he mailed out 152 ballots for the board election. He said 58 members paid in 2002 but not in 2003. He said he will send them a PDF of the application form with a note asking them to pay their dues.

Michelle Carter said the summer picnic is scheduled for Sept. 28 from 2-5 p.m. at her home in Belmont.

The Bench-Bar-Media meeting is schedlued for Sept. 30 at 6:30 p.m. at Hofbrau Harry’s in Redwood City. Melanie Carroll of the Daily News is the new coordinator.

Dave Price gave a brief report about the Web site.

Board members discussed holding this year’s Christmas party at Ralston Hall.

Meeting was adjourned at 7:15 p.m.
