Knowles Robertson, a broadcaster for 35 years in the Bay Area including 20 years as news director of KNEW-KSAN in Oakland, has died at age 77. During the Korean War, he managed a radio station on an Air Force base, and from there went on to a number of broadcasting jobs including anchoring a TV news program in the 1960s, according to an obituary in the Oroville Mercury Register. He moved to Sonoma 17 years ago. Shortly thereafter, his wife Rita died, and he took up cooking lessons and became quite the gourmand, his daughter said. He was a member of Broadcast Legends and NorCal Radio-Television News Directors Association. (Photo from the Radio-Television News Directors Association of Northern California home page)
