Weather anchor hosts SJ political forum

The most popular “Gonzales” in San Jose political circles Monday night wasn’t named Ron. KPIX CBS 5 weather anchor Roberta Gonzales, who used to work at KNTV Channel 11 in San Jose, was back in town to moderate a political forum featuring the five candidates who hope to succeed termed-out mayor Ron Gonzales, whose popularity is suffering because of a scandal over a garbage-hauling contract. According to Mercury News columnist Sal Pizarro, Roberta Gonzales told the crowd she was happy to be back in San Jose, where her mother once picked prunes. She even gave the audience a weather forecast before the debate began. Pizarro points out that the event, sponsored by the Hispanic Association of Realtors, was “very Silicon Valley” in that CBS 5 webcast the event live and took email questions from those watching on the Web. Video of the event can be found at cbs5.com/video.
