6,000 high school journalists due in SF

Some 6,000 students are expected to visit San Francisco in April for a national high school journalism convention. Sponsored by the Journalism Education Association and National Scholastic Press Association, students will attend more than 200 seminars, meet with local media professionals, receive awards and take sightseeing tours. Speakers include Chronicle columnist C.W. Nevius, magazine writer Cynthia Gorney and former “60 Minutes” producer now UC Berkeley teaching fellow Lowell Bergman, whose report on the tobacco industry was dramatized in the movie “The Insider.” Details of the conference, titled “One City, Many Choices” (note the logo top left), can be found at http://onecitymanychoices.org/. CNPA reports that Lynn McDaniel, adviser of The Goldpan at Grass Valley’s Nevada Union High School, is recruiting judges for contests.
