Guy Wright, who wrote for the Hearst-owned San Francisco Examiner for 25 years as a columnist and foreign correspondent, has died of pneumonia at age 83 at Kaiser Hospital in San Rafael, the Chronicle reports today. He worked overseas for the Examiner in Africa, Central America, the Caribbean and Vietnam. In San Francisco, he was a feature writer, radio/TV critic, daily columnist and op-ed columnist. “He wrote of scandals involving the disappearance of independent gas stations, the ownership of taxi permits by rich bosses, legal loopholes that allowed people to plunder the welfare system,” the Chronicle’s obit said.
