San Mateo Daily News drops Monday paper

A year after buying the Daily News Group, Knight Ridder has decided to pull the plug on the Monday editions of San Mateo, Redwood City and Burlingame Daily News. The three papers will continue to publish six days a week, Tuesday through Sunday. Their last Monday edition was March 6. The Daily News will continue to print a Monday edition of its Palo Alto paper. Knight Ridder bought the Daily News Group of five Peninsula dailies on Feb. 15, 2005, and the founding publishers, Dave Price and Jim Pavelich, left the company on Dec. 31 to work on their own newspaper projects. The announcement comes a couple of months after the San Mateo County Times added a Sunday edition, making that newspaper a seven-day publication.
