For the fifth consecutive year, the number of entries received by the Peninsula Press Club for the Greater Bay Area Journalism Awards has increased. Since the 2002 competition, the number of entries has increased 32 percent to 578 this year. On Thursday (June 1), this year’s awards will be presented during a dinner banquet at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, 1221 Chess Drive, Foster City. The contest, now in its 29th year, honors the best work by journalists in an 11-county area. A record 578 entries were received from 47 media outlets this year, up from 557 in 2005, 462 in 2004, 453 in 2003 and 437 in 2002. More than 100 awards will be presented to print, broadcast and internet journalists. The contest also has a category for public relations professionals. Cocktails at 6:30, 7:30 program.
