The San Francisco Web Pressmen & Prepress Workers Union Local 4N plans to hold a demonstration in front of the Chronicle at 5th and Mission streets on Friday (Aug. 11) at noon. The union claims management has not bargained in good faith and is attempting to gut the union’s previous contract, which expired July 1, 2005. Information on the protest is posted at The PPC reported on Dec. 19, 2005 that Chronicle Publisher Frank Vega was in discussions to outsource the paper’s printing to an outside company, which would leave the paper’s 450 union printers and mailers without jobs. In order for that to happen, however, the contractor would have to build a plant large enough to print the Chronicle.
