Leykis to take on Savage starting Monday

CBS Radio is hoping to topple Michael Savage (right) by bringing Southern California talker Tom Leykis (left) to San Francisco’s FREE FM 106.9 starting Monday in the 3-7 afternoon drive slot. For the first week, Leykis wil originate from SF and do an extra hour for local listeners from 2 to 3 p.m., according to Mercury News writer Brad Kava. Kava says Leykis will discuss some of the things about FREE FM that have not yet been spoken about. The station has had some controversial firings, including John London and Darian O’Toole. Both the Savage and Leykis shows are aimed squarely at the 18-34 male demographic. While Savage talks mostly about politics (“borders, language and culture,” as he puts it), Leykis is a former liberal who dispenses sexual advice to men and at times sounds as if he’s trying to start a male liberation movement.
