KR Digital employees don't want to move

McClatchy Co. plans to re-locate Knight Ridder Digital from San Jose to Raleigh, North Carolina, but very few of the 140 KRD employees are interested in moving, according to the AP. “It doesn’t look like we’re going to get a heck of a lot of folks to come from San Jose,” said Fraser Van Asch, executive vice president and general manager of McClatchy Interactive. “They feel like they’re living in paradise, and it’s hard to get them to move this way. … The first thing they think of is the humidity.” KRD, which operated the Web sites of Knight Ridder’s 32 daily newspapers under the name of Real Cities, was one of the assets McClatchy acquired when it bought KR earlier this year. Now McClatchy is consolidating KRD with McClatchy digital in Raleigh. The move could create 75 jobs by year’s end, McClatchy says.
