Stanford faculty missing in Yahoo gift story

The Chron today (Oct. 1) finally wrote about the controversy that began Sept. 18 over the decision by Stanford’s Knight Fellowships to accept $1 million from Yahoo — a company that has been criticized for helping the Chinese government prosecute journalists and acquiescing to its censorship demands. However, no faculty members are quoted in the Chron article, even though some hold themselves out as experts in journalism ethics. The article, which appears to be written by two freelancers, does not say whether faculty members were asked to comment and refused, or whether they just weren’t asked. Instead, the article discusses e-mails the Knight Fellowship office has receieved from program alumni and then a defense by Yahoo officials. Related stories:
