Reporting jobs outsourced to India

The Mercury News and Contra Costa Times are outsourcing ad production to India, so what’s next? Maybe reporting. The AP reports that a Web site in Pasadena that covers local news has outsourced the job of covering government meetings to reporters in India, who can watch the meetings online. “I think it could be a significant way to increase the quality of journalism on the local level without the expense that is a major problem for local publications,” said James Macpherson, editor and publisher of the two-year-old Web site Pasadenanow.com, who is shown here. “Whether you’re at a desk in Pasadena or a desk in Mumbai, you’re still just a phone call or e-mail away from the interview.” (Photo credit: Mark J.
