Blogs and bloggers come and go, but Brittney Gilbert (left) may be the first blogger hired by a local television newsroom for the purposes of blogging. CBS 5 has announced it has plucked Gilbert out of Music City and brought her to Baghdad by the Bay. She starts Nov. 19.

“In her role with us, she’ll spearhead a new community interaction feature by combing through the many blogs updated daily in the Bay Area, highlighting posts that she finds funny, provocative, insightful or informative on her blog,” said Jim Parker, director of internet operations at CBS5.com. “Think of Brittney as the Web equivalent of a newspaper columnist, but with robust community involvement. We also plan an automated blog aggregator and the opportunity for user comments, all to launch sometime after the first of the year.”
