Site with positive Oakland news breaks even

For newspaper people looking for an online business model that makes money, take a look at NovoMetro.com, which emphasizes the positive aspects of living in Oakland. The Oakland Tribune’s Francine Brevetti has profiled the site’s founders, Alex Gronke (left) and Priyanka Sharma-Sindhar (right), who got tired of hearing people slam their hometown and decided to do something about it. They quit their jobs at Red Herring and now run a business that has both a Web site and a magazine, OakBrook. They told the Tribune that they started the venture with their own money and are breaking even. They hope to become profitable this year. (Photo credits: NovoMetro Web site)
