Clarity Media, the company that owns the Examiner newspapers here and in Baltimore and Washington, D.C., is shutting down its printing plant in Maryland, resulting in the elimination of 101 jobs, the Washington Examiner reports.

The Examiner said it will outsource its printing so it can run more color advertising.

  1. They actually haven’t laid off any reporters, but they haven’t replaced the last couple that left either. I believe there are still seven or eight left.

  2. This is the tip of the iceberg. The Ex has been laying off people for a couple of months and is now dow to a bare bones operation of just a couple of reporters. The Peninsula Bureau was closed last fall and the Ex didn’t print on Labor Day or Columbus Day — not enough readers they said.
