Former KTVU morning anchor Mark Curtis has been hired as a weekend anchor and political/investigative reporter at the ABC affiliate in Providence, R.I.

Here’s a link to the press release that Mark posted on his Web site. And here’s a story that appeared on the Web site of his hometown paper, the Danville Weekly.

Curtis was at KTVU from 1993 until 2007. He then went freelance and covered the 2008 presidential campaign. He also wrote a book about the campaign, “Age of Obama: A Reporter’s Journey with Clinton, McCain and Obama in the Making of the President 2008.”

Bay Area Media News

  1. KTVU dumped Curtis for Dave Clark, who was bragging to people even before he started that he would be Dennis Richmond's replacement. Clark isn't nearly as good a journalist or anchor.

  2. Mark didn't deliberately "go freelance" he was fired from the morning news by management who decided he was too bald and overweight.

Mark had the guts to go out there and continue to cover the 2008 campaign on his own dime, spending a fortune to do the story as he thought it should be done. His work was so good that the very same morning show who thought he wasn't "pretty enough" to be on air hired him for freelance pieces on the campaign. Despite that I think it very unlikely he was even breaking even at that time – all while having to pay for kids in college.

It is a testimont to the journalistic priorities of the station that let him go that we are losing him to a small market station that is nonetheless thrilled to have an investigative reporter of his calibre.

    He will be missed.
