The New York Times is reporting this afternoon that Air America, whose affiliates included Clear Channel’s KKGN “Green 960” in San Francisco, has ceased broadcasting and will file for Chapter 7 bankruptcy liquidation.

Green 960 had picked up Rachel Maddow, Randi Rhodes and Thom Hartmann from Air America during the progressive network’s six year run. But Rhodes and Hartmann left the network and now are with different syndicators. Their shows still air on Green 960.

Air America filed for bankruptcy once before, Chapter 11 reorganization, in 2006, but apparently never made money.

  1. Several wonderful points about talk radio and why the Liberal format isn't as effective.

Most Talk Radio Listeners are 60 and above, demographically more conservative.

NPR is highly listenable and entertaining and is perceived at least as more left leaning. No need for an Air America format.

Talk Radio is far from dead and more center or left of center programming will continue to thrive in certain markets such as KGO's lineup here int he Bay Area.

  2. who gives a shit about Air America? You guys are so liberal!!!! Don't you understand that the public has moved way past you!

  3. Maddow's radio show wasn't nearly as good as her TV show. She is awful with live callers. She should drop radio and focus on the TV show.
