Rob Gurwitt, writing for Stateline.org, says that with newspaper cost-cutting and layoffs, a number of reporters in California have taken government jobs where they still use their investigative skills. Those making the leap include Nancy Vogel, formerly of the LA Times and Sacramento Bee; Dorothy Korber, previously a statehouse reporter for the Sacramento Bee; John Hill, a former investigative reporter for the Bee; Mark Martin, formerly of the Chron, and Stuart Drown, a one-time city editor for the Sacramento Bee, who now is executive director of the Little Hoover Commission.
