Of the 13 U.S. journalists awarded Knight Fellowships at Stanford, two are from the Bay Area.

Mary Aviles, an editor at the Spanish-language EFE News Services in San Jose, intends to work on a “content sharing platform for independent Hispanic media to enable them to build larger audiences.”

Kevin Weston, a “new media entrepreneur” from Oakland, proposes to establish “a sustainable, replicable, nonprofit business model for community-based media, with a focus on the San Francisco Bay Area.”
