SF Press Club revives college scholarship program
The San Francisco Press Club is pleased to announce the revival of its scholarship program for promising young journalists.
Students in the Bay Area are now invited to apply for the “SF Press Club Emerging Journalist Scholarship.” The Club will award two $2,500 stipends for the fall 2024 semester to help ease the many financial burdens facing students.
“San Francisco is one of the best places for a new journalist to start their career,” said Curtis Sparrer, president of the San Francisco Press Club. “After The New York Times detailed how San Francisco was bucking the national trend with a local news market that’s expanding, we thought we should do more to help the next generation of journalists. That’s why we’re offering two scholarships to coincide with our gala awards program, taking place December 4th.”
Qualifications:
Any undergraduate or graduate student pursuing a career in journalism at a Bay Area college or university is eligible to apply. Strong consideration will be given to students who represent historically-marginalized communities (people of color, LGBTQ+, religious minorities etc).
How to apply:
Applicants must submit a resume, two published writing samples and a photo by Sept. 25. Please email all materials to gardiner.dustin@gmail.com. Awardees will be notified in October and honored on the Club’s website and at its Dec. 4 gala.
