SAN FRANCISCO, October 28, 2024 — The San Francisco Press Club revealed its first lineup of speakers for its 47th awards show at The Julia Morgan Ballroom at 465 California Street in San Francisco. CNBC’s Deirdre Bosa of “TechCheck” and KQED’s Marisa Lagos will emcee. This comes after the Press Club received 798 entries, surpassing last year’s record of 540. This is now the fourth year in a row the SF Press Club has broken its previous contest record.
“I got my start covering local politics, and I know that local news is ground zero for holding power to account and holding a mirror up to our communities,” said Lagos. “I am so thrilled to be part of this year’s awards ceremony and honored to be onstage with such immensely talented folks — both my cohosts and all the journalists competing for this year’s honors.”
“OMG – this is better than Beyonce teaming up with Taylor Swift,” gushed Curtis Sparrer, president of the SF Press Club and principal of Bospar PR. “CNBC’s Deirdre Bosa covers the biggest themes in tech and regularly sits down with Silicon Valley’s most important leaders. As KQED’s California government and politics correspondent, Marisa Lagos has transformed how Californians understand their political system by bringing candid, human conversations as part of the podcast Political Breakdown, and has moderated some of the most substantive debates in California in the past few years, including with Gov. Gavin Newsom and this year’s SF mayoral debate.”
The awards gala will take place on Wednesday, Dec. 4, at The Julia Morgan Ballroom. Cocktail service will begin at 5:30 p.m., and dinner and awards will commence at 6:30 p.m.
Tickets will cost $200 at the door, but The San Francisco Press Club is now selling them for $65 for current members, $75 for working journalists, $50 for students (with valid ID) and $150 for non-journalist allies. Full tables for groups of up to ten can be purchased online, too. Last year’s gala sold out quickly. Purchase your tickets today.
