San Francisco – November 14, 2024 – The San Francisco Press Club today announced that Erika Beatriz Carlos, the Editor-in-Chief of El Tecolote, has joined its board of directors by unanimous vote.
“Erika Carlos is a remarkable media dynamo, leading California’s longest-running bilingual newspaper in English and Spanish,” said Curtis Sparrer, the SF Press Club President. “Before that, she distinguished herself with her multimedia skills at the San Francisco Chronicle.”
At the Chronicle, Carlos rose from producer to editor, working across video, podcasts and digital. In her more recent role as audience editor, she oversaw the newsroom’s presence on search, social and emerging platforms. Prior to her 4.5 years at The Chronicle, Carlos was the digital editor for the Santa Barbara Independent.
“There’s no more urgent time to support the San Francisco Press Club than now,” said Carlos. “In politically charged times, fostering a vibrant local media ecosystem and supporting its journalists is essential to democracy and civic engagement. I’m particularly excited to support the next generation of journalists through workshops and events designed for high school and college students.”
Erika will be joining the Board at its upcoming 47th awards gala. The awards gala will take place on Wednesday, Dec. 4, at The Julia Morgan Ballroom. Cocktail service will begin at 5:30 p.m., and dinner and awards will commence at 6:30 p.m.
Tickets will cost $200 at the door, but The San Francisco Press Club is now selling them for $65 for current members, $75 for working journalists, $50 for students (with valid ID) and $150 for non-journalist allies. Full tables for groups of up to ten can be purchased online, too. Last year’s gala sold out quickly. Purchase your tickets today.
