Journalist John Ferrannini Joins San Francisco Press Club Board

SAN FRANCISCO — October 28, 2025 — The San Francisco Press Club today announced the appointment of John Ferrannini, assistant news editor at the Bay Area Reporter, to its board of directors.

The Bay Area Reporter is the newspaper of record for San Francisco’s LGBTQ+ community and the nation’s oldest continuously published LGBTQ+ newspaper, As an assistant news editor, Ferrannini has covered a wide range of beats including crime, courts, politics, religion, nonprofits, small business and education, often through the lens of the LGBTQ+ experience.

“John represents the very best of Bay Area journalism: curious, courageous and deeply committed to truth,” said Curtis Sparrer, president of the San Francisco Press Club and principal of Bospar. “His dedication to fairness and accuracy embodies the values our Club stands for, and we’re honored to welcome him to the board.”

A decorated journalist, Ferrannini has earned multiple honors from the California Newspaper Publishers Association and the San Francisco Press Club, including first-place awards for election coverage, faith and religion reporting, and non-daily news stories. He is also a two-time fellow of the Gerontological Society of America.

His bylines have appeared in The Richmond Review/Sunset Beacon, Noe Valley Voice, Potrero View, J. The Jewish News of Northern California, The Hill, EDGE Media Network, Philadelphia Gay News, Out in Jersey and Out South Florida. Ferrannini holds a bachelor’s degree in journalism from California State University, Sacramento.
