Award-winning Bay Area broadcasters join in-person awards show December 8
SAN FRANCISCO – November 18, 2022 – The San Francisco Press Club announced broadcasters Wendy Tokuda and Reed Cowan will host the organization’s first in-person awards show since the COVID-19 pandemic. The news comes after the San Francisco Press Club announced that Bay Area political insider and journalist Phil Matier will keynote the awards show.
A widely honored broadcast journalist, Tokuda has anchored prime time newscasts at KING, KNBC, KRON, and KPIX. She was also the co-founder and producer of the highly successful feature, “Students Rising Above,” which recognized and provided scholarships for students who overcame great hardship to succeed. Tokuda retired in 2016 but remains a storyteller and news junkie. “Reporting the truth is more important than ever,” she says. “Without the truth, we are lost.”
KPIX broadcaster Reed Cowan is an Emmy, Edward R. Murrow and GLAAD award-winning storyteller.
“I’m honored to share a space with peers who know that occupying our roles as truth-tellers is not only important, but crucial in fulfilling our constitutionally-protected missions to expose the truth and connect communities,” Reed said.
Matier, who describes himself as a “Bay Area political insider and journalist,” has been featured in The San Francisco Examiner and the San Francisco Chronicle. He has also been a broadcast reporter on KRON-TV and KPIX-5 and currently ABC-7 and KCBS radio.
“Wendy Tokuda and Reed Cowan set a standard for integrity and professionalism in Bay Area media, and it’s an honor to have them help us salute the best journalism of the region for 2022,” said Curtis Sparrer, president of the San Francisco Press Club and Bospar PR.
