SAN FRANCISCO — July 07, 2025 — The San Francisco Press Club today announced the appointment of Dan Evans, Editor & Publisher of Napa Valley Publishing — which produces the Napa Valley Register, St. Helena Star, and Inside Napa Valley magazine — to its board of directors.

“As both a journalist and publisher, Dan understands the business realities of keeping newsrooms running while maintaining editorial integrity,” said Curtis Sparrer, president of the San Francisco Press Club. “His North Bay perspective is exactly what our board needs, and his experience in journalism advocacy and collective action will help us better serve the entire Bay Area media community.”

Evans spent about 15 years in Los Angeles, where he served for approximately 10 years on the board of the Greater Los Angeles Society of Professional Journalists, giving him firsthand experience in the power of organized journalism advocacy.

“I’m incredibly excited and honored to join the board of the SF Press Club,” said Evans. “I look forward to helping my new colleagues in their efforts to sustain and grow a community of journalists who support and defend one another as well as, most importantly, advocate for free speech for all. We also need to partner with publishers who are making the crucial dollars and cents calculations to keep journalism running—because without viable business models, we can’t fulfill our mission to inform the public.”
