Award-Winning Women’s Sports Journalist Marisa Ingemi Joins San Francisco Press Club Board

SAN FRANCISCO — July 14, 2025 — The San Francisco Press Club today announced the appointment of Marisa Ingemi, staff writer covering women’s sports at the San Francisco Chronicle, to its board of directors.

“Marisa is a trailblazer who’s proven that women’s sports isn’t a niche beat — it’s mainstream sports journalism,” said Curtis Sparrer, president of the San Francisco Press Club. “Her award-winning coverage of everything from the Golden State Valkyries to Bay FC has shown that when you invest in women’s sports coverage, audiences respond. That’s exactly the kind of forward-thinking perspective our board needs.”

Ingemi was named the 2024 NSMA California co-sportswriter of the year and 2024 USBWA Rising Star award recipient. A New Hampshire native, she graduated from Boston University in 2017 and has established herself as one of the few full-time women’s sports beat reporters in the country, covering Stanford and Cal basketball, the NWSL’s Bay FC, and the WNBA’s Golden State Valkyries for the Chronicle.

“I am overjoyed to be a part of the SF Press Club board,” said Ingemi. “Now more than ever journalists need to be a support network for each other, and I am excited to contribute to that especially as someone in women’s sports who can provide a unique voice.”
