SAN FRANCISCO — September 2, 2025 — The San Francisco Press Club today announced the appointment of Jeremy C. Owens, editor-in-chief of the San Francisco Business Times, to its board of directors.
“Jeremy is one of the most respected business journalists in the Bay Area, with a track record of holding Silicon Valley and the broader business community accountable for more than 20 years,” said Curtis Sparrer, president of the San Francisco Press Club. “His deep knowledge of technology, finance and the evolving media landscape will be a tremendous asset to our board as we continue to strengthen and support Bay Area journalism.”
Owens oversees the newsroom at the San Francisco Business Times and its coverage of Bay Area business, technology and innovation. Over his career, he has covered the region’s transformation from the rise of social media to today’s era of artificial intelligence.
Before joining the Business Times as editor-in-chief in April 2025, Owens served nearly a decade as San Francisco Bureau Chief & tech editor at MarketWatch. He also focused on tech coverage with the Mercury News, after stints with the San Francisco Examiner and Fremont Argus early in his career. The University of Georgia graduate has been praised by colleagues for his ability to run a newsroom.
“My former colleague and editor Jeremy Owens cares about quality journalism — and about the reporters and others who practice it,” said Levi Sumagaysay, economy reporter for CalMatters. “It shows in his work and in his constant efforts to stay connected with the Bay Area news ecosystem. I am confident he will be a great addition to the SF Press Club board.”
“The San Francisco Business Times has been an essential part of the city’s media ecosystem for nearly 40 years, and I’m proud to represent it on the San Francisco Press Club board,” said Owens.
