SAN FRANCISCO – Oct. 29, 2025 – The San Francisco Press Club announced today that Google has joined as a breakthrough-level sponsor for the organization’s 48th Annual Greater Bay Area Journalism Awards.

The awards gala will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 9, 2025, at the Julia Morgan Ballroom in downtown San Francisco. More than 300 journalists, media professionals and industry leaders will gather to celebrate excellence in Bay Area journalism. The event will include cocktail service beginning at 5:30 p.m., followed by dinner and awards at 6:30 p.m.

“At Google, we value quality journalism and its vital role it plays in keeping communities informed,” said Chrissy Towle, Director of News Partnerships at Google. “The Bay Area is home to some of the most innovative and impactful storytellers in the world, and we’re proud to stand with the San Francisco Press Club in celebrating their work and dedication to the public good.”

The December ceremony will recognize winners from the Press Club’s annual journalism contest, which received a record-breaking 910 entries this year. The gala honors outstanding work across categories including breaking news, investigative reporting, feature writing, photography and digital media innovation. Guests will enjoy a three-course gourmet meal with wine service and panoramic views of the San Francisco skyline.

“We’re thrilled to welcome Google as a breakthrough-level sponsor,” said Curtis Sparrer, president of the San Francisco Press Club and principal of Bospar. “Google’s ongoing investments in digital innovation and support for the journalism community make them a natural partner for our mission to uplift and recognize the best in Bay Area media.”
