Longtime KCBS Reporter Doug Sovern Receives Prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award

SAN FRANCISCO – Dec 2, 2025 – The San Francisco Press Club announced today it presented a veteran voice of Bay Area news, Doug Sovern, with a Lifetime Achievement Award, recognizing his decades of reporting and political coverage across radio and TV.

“This is an extraordinary honor for which I am deeply grateful,” said Sovern. “When I think of all the giants of Bay Area journalism who came before me, to even be considered for inclusion in their pantheon is beyond anything I could have imagined when I began my career 40 years ago. I am honored beyond measure and truly humbled to receive this recognition from the San Francisco Press Club, a champion of journalistic excellence for more than six decades.”

Sovern began his media career at the New York Times and moved to the Bay Area to transition into radio, rising through reporting and editorial roles at K101-FM and KGO. He joined KCBS Radio in 1990, spending 35 years as an editor, reporter, anchor and longtime political reporter. He also appeared on KPIX-TV as a reporter and political analyst. He is the recipient of more than 250 journalism awards and has covered every U.S. presidential election since 1988, along with major global events, from 9/11 to Hurricane Katrina. His investigative reporting earned top national honors, including a duPont-Columbia Award along with Edward R. Murrow Awards, National Headliner Awards and Sigma Delta Chi Awards.

“We’re thrilled to honor Doug with this Lifetime Achievement Award for a remarkable career marked by dedication, insight and commitment to Bay Area journalism,” said SF Press Club President Curtis Sparrer.
