Uber Sponsors San Francisco Press Club’s 49th Annual Greater Bay Area Journalism Awards

SAN FRANCISCO – Nov. 5, 2026 – The San Francisco Press Club announced today that Uber has joined as an editorial sponsor of the organization’s 49th Annual Greater Bay Area Journalism Awards.

The awards gala will be held on Monday, Dec. 7, 2026 at the Julia Morgan Ballroom in downtown San Francisco, where more than 300 journalists, media professionals and industry leaders will gather to celebrate excellence in Bay Area journalism. The event will include cocktail service beginning at 5:30 p.m., followed by dinner and awards at 6:30 p.m.

“Uber started in San Francisco, and local reporters have covered our story, and the city’s, every step of the way,” said Zahid Arab, Senior Public Policy and Communications Manager at Uber. “The Bay Area depends on journalists who ask hard questions and explain how decisions made at City Hall show up in people’s daily commutes. We’re glad to help the Press Club recognize that work.”

The December ceremony will recognize winners from the Press Club’s annual journalism contest, which received nearly 800 entries this year. The gala honors outstanding work across categories including breaking news, investigative reporting, feature writing, photography and digital media innovation. Guests will enjoy a three-course gourmet meal with wine service and panoramic views of the San Francisco skyline.

“Uber was born a few blocks from many of the newsrooms we honor, so it’s fitting to have them with us on Dec. 7,” said Curtis Sparrer, president of the San Francisco Press Club and principal of Bospar. “Their support helps us put a spotlight on the reporters who keep this region informed.”

To help ensure that working journalists have priority access to this year’s gala, online ticket sales are designated for journalists $80), Press Club members ($70) and students ($50). A limited number of ally tickets for non-member supporters will be available by request at $350. Those interested may contact the Press Club for information.

Journalists with professional media email addresses can obtain Press Club membership immediately through the membership portal. Freelancers and others interested in supporting the Press Club are also welcome to apply for membership. Additional information about membership options is available through the Press Club’s membership portal.

Last year’s gala sold out well in advance, so get your tickets early.

About Uber

Uber’s mission is to create opportunity through movement. We started in 2010 to solve a simple problem: how do you get access to a ride at the touch of a button? More than 75 billion trips later, we’re building products to get people closer to where they want to be. By changing how people, food, and things move through cities, Uber is a platform that opens up the world to new possibilities.
