Google Sponsors San Francisco Press Club’s 49th Annual Greater Bay Area Journalism Awards

SAN FRANCISCO – Nov. 5, 2026 – The San Francisco Press Club announced today that Google has joined as an editorial sponsor of the organization’s 49th Annual Greater Bay Area Journalism Awards.

“Local journalism keeps Bay Area communities connected and informed,” said Chrissy Towle, Director of News Partnerships at Google. “That’s why we support the San Francisco Press Club and the journalists, editors and photographers doing this essential work.”

The awards gala will be held on Monday, Dec. 7, 2026 at the Julia Morgan Ballroom in downtown San Francisco, where more than 300 journalists, media professionals and industry leaders will gather to celebrate excellence in Bay Area journalism. The event will include cocktail service beginning at 5:30 p.m., followed by dinner and awards at 6:30 p.m.

“Google has backed this gala before, and we’re grateful to count them among this year’s sponsors,” said Curtis Sparrer, president of the San Francisco Press Club and principal of Bospar. “Their continued support for local news makes a real difference to the newsrooms we’ll honor in December.”

The December ceremony will recognize winners from the Press Club’s annual journalism contest, which received nearly 800 entries this year. The gala honors outstanding work across categories including breaking news, investigative reporting, feature writing, photography and digital media innovation.

To help ensure that working journalists have priority access to this year’s gala, online ticket sales are designated for journalists $80), Press Club members ($70) and students ($50). A limited number of tickets for non-member supporters will be available by request at $350. Those interested may contact the Press Club for information.

Journalists with professional media email addresses can obtain Press Club membership immediately through the membership portal. Freelancers and others interested in supporting the Press Club are also welcome to apply for membership. Additional information about membership options is available through the Press Club’s membership portal.

Last year’s gala sold out well in advance, so get your tickets early.
