AP, SI break Chron reporters' Bonds story

Chronicle reporters Lance Williams (left) and Mark Fainaru-Wada have been widely honored for their in-depth reporting on the scandal involving Barry Bonds and the steroid lab known as BALCO, and on March 27 their book with new details about Bonds’ alleged use of performance-enhancing drugs is scheduled for publication. But SportsIllustrated.com was the first media outlet to publish excerpts of the book, not the Chron. And the Associated Press appears to have broken the news about the highlights of the book. The AP story crossed the wire at 11:14 a.m. today (March 7). The Chronicle’s SFGate.com posted its own story containing details of the book at 11:47 a.m. along with a podcast of Williams and Fainaru-Wada discussing their book. Additional pieces from the “Game of Shadows” will appear in the Chronicle starting Sunday (March 12).
