East Palo Alto, population 29,500, is one of the largest cities in California not to have its own newspaper … until now. Henrietta Burroughs, a Palo Alto resident who hosts a cable access interview program, has launched “EPA Today,” which will publish once every two weeks with a press run of 8,000. Burroughs has a long career in journalism including jobs at the New York Post and WNBC-TV in New York in the 1970s, according to a Merc story by reporter HongDao Nguyen. Burroughs said a community newspaper will promote understanding and give residents the information they need in a timely manner. Front page articles are translated from English to Spanish for the city’s majority Latino population.
