ABC digitizes KGO’s news tape library

ABC Owned Television Stations this spring has finished digitizing, cataloging and storing the news tape library of KGO, making stories dating back to the 1970s readily available to producers at KGO and other ABC O&Os, TVNewsCheck reports. The project has reduced an old tape library filling 2,000 square feet into a device the size of a medium-size shipping box containing a little over a petabyte of data. KRON to sell building, move in with KGO-TV

KRON’s home at 1001 Van Ness Ave. KRON’s owner, Media General, announced today that it is listing its 1001 Van Ness Ave. building and moving in with Channel 7 at the ABC Broadcast Center on Front Street. “KRON will remain an independent station with its own staff and separate broadcast facilities. KGO-TV crew robbed in Oakland — even though they had a guard

Oakland police say a KGO-TV crew was robbed of camera equipment at gunpoint in broad daylight even while accompanied by a security guard. According to KPIX-TV, police said that three men accosted the KGO-TV crew around 2:30 p.m. Friday (Aug. 2) in West Oakland. At least one had a gun. Thieves in Oakland target both KGO van and the car of news crew’s guard

Thieves broke into another news van in Oakland today, but this time a reporter chased them, the Chronicle reports. The break-in happened shortly before noon when a KGO-TV news crew was interviewing the owner of Loakal, an art gallery and boutique at 2nd and Clay streets at Jack London Square. ABC7 cancels ‘7Live’ talk show

Watkowski Tracey Watkowski, currently the news director at ABC-owned KFSN in Fresno, has been named KGO-TV’s vp of news, replacing Kevin Keeshan, who was named ombudsman at NBC News in January. KGO-TV’s ND Keeshan quits, to join NBC

Media blogger Rich Lieberman reports that longtime KGO-TV ABC7 News Director Kevin Keeshan will become the ombudsman for NBC News. Keeshan, the nephew of “Captain Kangaroo” Bob Keeshan, will be joining former KGO-TV president and general manager Valari Dobson Staab at 30 Rock. She heads NBC’s owned and operated stations. Lieberman says he was told by a Channel 7 insider that Keeshan literally had a bag packed when he gathered his staff and told them he was leaving.

ABC7 will replace Oprah with local news

Nov. sweeps: ABC7 won at 11 p.m. on 7-day basis

Here’s another follow up to our report on the November sweeps. We said that CBS5 won at 11 p.m. Monday-Friday, but ABC7 informs us that they won when weekends are included. As we said before, the battle at 11 p.m. between Channels 5 and 7 is extremely close.
